United States Green Building Council

USGBC

NBWW is a member of the United States Green Building Counsel.

The USGBC LEED rated building program is currently a voluntary based system. Due to several factors in the construction industry and general global economy, environmentally sound buildings are becoming a necessity and rapidly growing in popularity. The USGBC, creators of the LEED Rating System, is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC, with smaller regional chapters spread out across the United States.

The building types which qualify for LEED review are unlimited. LEED-NC (New Construction), LEED CS (Core & Shell), LEED-N (Neighborhoods) are just a few of the many rating categories that are currently offered, or in their pilot program. Each program is based on 6 divisions: Sustainable Site, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality and Innovation & Design Process. In order to qualify for a LEED rating, a building must achieve a prescribed number of points between 26 and 69, resulting in a Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum rating.

In general, we believe the endeavour to LEED qualify a building may comprise three broader pursuits: providing a high quality indoor environment, improving operating costs and/or simply enhancing marketability of your product. Not exclusive of each other, all three can have positive impacts on the profitability and the appeal of your buildings to investors, tenants and owners alike.

LEED will continue to grow in popularity and, as it does, it will become more of a requirement with local and federal governments. NBWW is committed to offering LEED service to all of our clients and projects.
